What is the SUVCW?
The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is a congressionally chartered organization dedicated to preserving the memory and legacy of Union soldiers and sailors.
Who can join the SUVCW?
Membership is open to male descendants of Union veterans, as well as associates who support our mission. Lineage is not required for associate membership.
What does the SUVCW do?
We conduct ceremonies, preserve monuments, register graves, support historical education, and honor Kentucky’s Union veterans through public service and community engagement.
How do I join the SUVCW?
You can join by completing the national membership application and contacting
your local camp. Kentucky has active camps ready to welcome new members.

What is the SVR?
The Sons of Veterans Reserve (SVR) is the uniformed ceremonial arm of the SUVCW. Members participate in honor guards, memorial ceremonies, and historical presentations across Kentucky.
Do I need a uniform?
No. Only SVR members wear uniforms. Regular SUVCW members do not need uniforms to participate in meetings or events.
How do I find a camp near me?
The Department of Kentucky maintains active camps across the state. Visit our Camps page or contact the Department Secretary for assistance.
Can I volunteer without joining?
Yes. Many of our public events welcome volunteers, especially for grave registration, ceremonies, and historical preservation projects.
Does the SUVCW work with other heritage groups?
Yes. We frequently collaborate with historical societies, reenactment units, museums, and veteran organizations to preserve Kentucky’s Civil War history.
How can I support the SUVCW if I cannot attend events?
